Trained volunteer tutors work with adult students on Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) skills. Tutors meet with their students at RLC or other approved sites throughout Racine and Western Racine County.

Students choose personal, educational, work related, and community related goals. To assist in achieving these goals our core curriculum is supplemented by computer work and materials from our library that teach life skills. Computers are equipped with a variety of educational software and the library contains skill related books as well as books to encourage reading for enjoyment.

There is a chapter of the National Adult Education Honor Society at RLC. All students who have been in the program for a minimum of 12 months, have achieved personal life skill goals, have participated in RLC activities, and have attended tutoring regularly are eligible for membership.

In addition to Basic Literacy and ESL, tutors may specialize in math, driver education, citizenship or may choose to tutor at one of the local correctional institutions.

Staff coordinators provide on-going support for tutors and their students.
