Shakespeare Birthday Party & Edible Book Contest

Shakespeare’s Birthday will be celebrated by the Racine Literacy Council on April 23 at a party held at Infusino’s Banquet Hall (3201 Rapid Drive) from 5:30 – 9p.m. We hope you will plan on attending. The evening will include Shakespearean performances by actors and musicians, and an on-going Shakespeare sale and silent auction of Shakespearean artifacts. The event is to support the RLC Shakespeare Garden at the Racine Literacy Council (734 Lake Avenue). A donation of $20 at the door is appreciated.

Included in the festivities is the Edible Book Contest, in which cake decorators are asked to create a cake with a Shakespearean theme. The contest is open to both professional and amateur cake decorators. Judging will be done separately for professional and amateur categories. Literary creations will be on display and those attending the fundraiser will be the judges. Winners will be awarded prizes! Cake will be served to guests in attendance. Individuals and local businesses will have the chance to bid on cakes to raise funds for the RLC programs.

The RLC Shakespeare Garden is part of a larger Urban Shakespeare Garden Walk along Lake Avenue. The garden will emphasize how language, reading and writing are important to life and will provide a place of quiet and relaxation for RLC volunteers and learners. The garden is a collection of plants, flowers, herbs or trees mentioned in the works of Shakespeare and includes an original mural by local artist Jerrold Belland.
