Summer Read read-a-thon

You are invited to join the Racine Literacy Council’s (RLC) annual Summer Read read-a-thon. What a great way to support the RLC literacy program while reading your favorite books over the summer. Gather pledges from family, friends, co-workers, and classmates for each book you plan to read between June 4 – September 8 (International Literacy Day).
Prizes will be awarded in different categories for the most books read and most money raised: Categories are adult, family, youth, and groups. Groups may include book clubs, classrooms, schools, civic groups, churches, or businesses. Last year $4,800 was raised by only 12 readers. The goal this year is 100 readers raising $10,000. With your help we can do it!
To participate as a reader we ask that you collect pledges for each book you read over the summer. For example: If you read 5 books and receive $10 pledges for each book read from 10 people, you would raise $500 for the RLC Adult Tutoring Program. Money pledged may be collected throughout the summer and submitted to the RLC by September 8 (International Literacy Day).
You can also sign up at the Summer Read Party on Friday, June 4th at the DeKoven Center/ Assembly Hall at 600 21 Street, Racine. People entering by June 4 will receive one free book. One of the activities will include a voice and silent auction with autographed books from regional and national authors. Noted Kenosha author, Michael Schumacher, and Burlington author, Arthur Cola will be present to read a short passage from their latest books. Sign-up to be a Summer Read reader that night and receive a free book courtesy of the Racine Literacy Council. Heavy appetizers and refreshments will be served. The night will include live music. Summer attire and sunglasses are welcome.
You can download Summer Read pledge packs here or call the Racine Literacy Council to have one sent to you. For more information on Summer Read or the June 4th Summer Read Party call 262-632-9495.
